Not all the movies debut in Brazil at the same time that it is in the rest of the world, but “Slumdog Mllionaire” (translated here as “Who wants to be a millionaire”) could not be launched in more appropriate time.
Launched in August 2008 in the U.S., the film landed on 6 March 2009 officially in Brazil, two weeks after having won 8 Oscar and several other Golden Globes (including for best movie). But the producers was “nice” and is released 2 weeks ago some pre-debut sessions, still in time for the cerimony.
We were there to check the first sessions of the movie pre-debut and we can say that it will be a success in Brazil. Getting ride with Indian momment traditionally brought by another soup opera, the movie shows a different culture, without luxury and India poverty. However, this story of three suffered children ends up being comical.
At the end, the viewer will certainly feel like television fan, rooting for the poor guy become a millionaire, like the best TV shows. The soundtrack, that also won some golden statuettes, is a side show: it follows India rhythms, but with modern tones and electric sounds. The singer M.I.A (that recently ventured with brazillian funk rhythm) is participating in some tracks and the Pussycat Dolls is participating the international theme also (Jai Ho).
“Slumdog Millionaire” may not be the best movie you watched in your life, but it’s a nice story that is worth being seen, even if it’s just to welcome the invasion of Bollywood to Hollywood.
